If you have changed your name legally in India. Then you can update the same in your account too. What I am telling is you can change it in the bank account as well. But there is a proper way to do it. In this guide, I will tell you how you can change name in Indian Overseas Bank Account.
The banks in India allow the account holders to change the name in the account. But the request will be taken and processed only if there is a proper proof document with the account holder. So you will have to provide the proof document of your name change.
If you are changing it after marriage. Then you can use your marriage certificate as the proof document. In case if you have changed it legally then you can use the legal name change notification as proof. And in case of a spelling mistake in the account. You can use any identity proof document that spells your name correctly.
You need not submit the original copy of your document to the bank. But you will have to submit a self-attested photocopy of the document you are submitting to the bank. There is no way you can update your name online. The only way to do it is offline by visiting your IOB’s home branch.
